 New Year's wish

- Lyuts, Lyuts, are you somewhere around?
I’ve heard someone calling me. It was a familiar voice but I couldn’t remember whose voice that was. That time I was checking on our patients. There was Cocker Spaniel Sonya at the vet clinic, she was recovering from a caesarean and I was looking after her pup. Vik a Big and very kind dog was recovering from a difficult surgery, he ate 200 grams of lean beef and got a stomach torsion, I was supporting him and assured that our vets would save him.
- Lyuts, Lyuts, - the voice brought me back to reality.
I ran into the corridor…
- Fasolka, is that you? What are you doing here?
- I came for a vaccination shot. My family told me it is very important and that I won’t be sick. But to be honest I’m scared of injections! – Fasolka started shivering.
- Don’t be afraid. There’s nothing scary about vaccination – it’s like a flea bite, - I smiled, - how do you find your new home?
- Lyutsik, I’ve never been so happy. Everything is like you told me, I live in a big house and I’m allowed to run around and play as much as I want. My owners pat me a lot and I purr with pleasure, I sharpen my claws behind the sofa when no one can see, exactly as you taught me. Lyutsik, there’s something I wanted to ask you – I see a lot of cats and dogs from my window, do they have a home?
It made me think a little. We get a lot of pets from shelters for sterilisations or regular check-ups, not one of them is a sausage-thief or killed any other animal, haven’t smelt a valerian root, none of them did wrong to deserve a fate of a stray animal.
Every single one of them is raising his eyes in hope that a human they once loved would enter their life again, the one in whose legs they used to wake up, the one they faithfully awaited after work. Why people throw them away? Because pets know how to trust and love?
I am not going to upset Fasolka, I won’t tell her that with the upcoming winter she will see them less and less and that it is all the fault of humans – even though there are among them my family, Alexey Leonidovich – Fasolka’s grandpa and many more of those who will give their life for ours, for example.
- Yes, Fasolka, they have. They just go for a walk. Their owners are around and look after, them.
- That’s great then, I was worried, I thought they were like me, didn’t have anyone who loves them and needs them and I wanted to find them a home. I even wanted to ask Alexey Leonidovich to adopt them all.
I gave a hug to Fasolka, she has changed, grew up, became a proper feline with amazing scents of home and turned into a real Fasol.
Every New Year I make one wish – I want every stray to find a fur-ever home. And I hope that one day my wish would come true. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. – this phrase occurred to my mind from a fairy tale “The little Prince” which mum used to read for me and my sister when we were kittens.
